It’s good to write what you know when you’re stumped about what to write. It’s even better to write about what you WANT to know when you’re just absolutely, positively convinced that you know WHAT to write about. I’ve floundered as gracefully as I could some few months now between platforms and finally resigned myself to shortform fantasy & science fiction stories that are not illustrated. Whoopie.
This may come as a surprise to Young Me when I time travel to see how things are going. I know I never banked on the difficulties I encountered since deciding WRITING was just too good to leave entirely to others. On the other hand, Young Me will appreciate the way in which I’ve begun to funnel actual science articles into my sphere of influence to serve as inspiration. It’s nice for reading to have a purpose.
I can’t take all the credit. My personal technology spies on me very efficiently since I’ve stated aloud my intentions. (You know: Make one careless joke at the dinner table about Latvian prostitutes and suddenly every ad in your browser is from Anastasia.shh) Well, my intellectual pursuit of reality and the finite has set my phone to something like Search and Destroy. With relentless, Cylon-like accuracy, my phone and browsers have served me enough bread crumbs to assemble three short form stories and half a dozen hundred-word … things.
What’s more fun is the Head Space these articles put me in. I think this has solved some media platform confusion for me and Substack will become the White Board for my thoughts about what I read in personal tech and astrophysics (both real and the philosophical). I’d like a discussion about these things but maybe more than one in which I get bounced around and must flounder gracefully (which the internet does to me so well) - I’ll moderate careful, plain language discussions about deep shit and post the resulting creativity elsewhere. And maybe I’ll even use one of those hundred-word things to kick the entries off. :) It’s nice for writing to have a purpose.
Come along if you wish! There might even be a name change… ??? May I? And no hard feelings if you unsubscribe. I do hope, however, that you find yourself drawn in as I’ve been, as I get farther into real unknowns as I get farther into Peace Galley.
